I believe that inherent within us is the ability to grow through challenges and move toward what is meaningful in life, despite our hardships. Just like we learn to ride a bike or swim, recovery and gaining tools to change the way we relate to our inner world is a skill that can be developed over time. You are not defined by what you are experiencing; you are not broken, and healing is possible.
My mission is to create a non-judgmental, collaborative space where you can authentically be yourself. With a mental health nursing background, I have gained an appreciation for the complexities of the human condition. Because of this experience, I bring a unique perspective to understand your needs and how we can collaboratively explore your obstacles and work towards solutions. As your therapist, my role is that of a guide, to walk alongside you as you navigate your own path toward growth. Together, we will foster resilience, develop coping strategies, and uncover the strengths you may not yet realize you have within you. I look forward to working with you!
Q & A with Armaan
What made you decide to choose your role as a therapist?
I have always been interested in therapy. After going through therapy as a teenager, I gained valuable tools that I still use today. Seeing how it benefitted myself and many others around me was very encouraging, and I became intrigued and fascinated by the profession. After working in a mental health unit, I knew becoming a psychotherapist was my natural next step.
What do you think are the biggest misconceptions about mental health?
A misconception is that only some people can develop mental health issues. However, the reality is that mental health is something we all have; we all experience life's ups and downs. We are all susceptible to struggles and challenges, so we can take proactive steps to improve our mental health without shame or stigma.
What do you like most about what you do?
Just seeing how individuals can be so courageous as they face challenging situations and inner turmoil while developing resilience and self-awareness as they heal and grow. I am honoured to be a small part of their journey, but it is truly amazing to witness individuals overcome what they once thought was insurmountable.
What would you like a client to say about working with you?
I want my clients to know that I have struggled with my own set of mental health challenges as a teenager - so although I may not exactly know how they are feeling, I know how it can feel very isolating to struggle with mental health challenges. The shame, anger and guilt can be overwhelming to deal with at times. I want my clients to know that I tailor my care based on their needs and their unique worldview. As a member from a visible minority, I am attuned to culturally diverse ways of being and want to ensure my clients always feel comfortable being themselves when coming to their sessions with me. I try to create a safe space where my clients can be vulnerable while also having a lighthearted and informal atmosphere.
