Cancer Counselling
Cancer changes everything.
Whether you have been diagnosed with cancer yourself or you are helping a loved one deal with a diagnosis, you are likely here because you could use some additional support. Cancer can be isolating and scary and it can be hard to find adequate support. Working with a therapist at any point in the cancer journey can help to bring clarity, meaning, and healing.
You are not alone.
Facing cancer is really hard. It is hard physically, emotionally and spiritually. Working with a mental health professional can provide important emotional support. Please don’t hesitate to reach out. When you’re ready we can help.
Whatever you are going through, you are not alone.
Cancer has enormous and far-reaching impacts on relationships, identity, body image, mood, future goals, and many, many other facets of life. It is important to know that you are not expected to simply “get on with it”, deal with treatment, pain, fear, medical appointments, and relationship challenges all on your own. You are also not expected to come to the end of cancer treatment and just get back to your old life.
Cancer changes everything. It is often traumatic, painful, scary, and life-altering.
“ She stood in the storm and when the wind did not blow her way, she adjusted her sails. ”
-Elizabeth Edwards
Cancer counselling is for:
People with a recent diagnosis of cancer
People dealing with a palliative diagnosis

Family members who are supporting their loved ones through a cancer journey
Anyone struggling to cope with the impact of cancer on their life
How can a therapist help me deal with cancer?
Your therapist can provide you with a safe space to express your emotions and work with you to reveal how various emotions are showing up in your body, your relationships, and your life in general. You will have the chance to work through the ways that cancer has changed your identity and your future plans as well as your body. You may be interested in working on finding meaning in the experience of cancer or you may need somewhere to work through the physical and emotional trauma that cancer has left. Even if you don’t know what you want to talk about in therapy, but you simply know that having an objective, non-judgemental person in your corner would be helpful, we are here for you.
How cancer counselling can help
Cancer counselling first and foremost creates a safe and open space for you to share your feelings. There is no judgement here and no expectations put on your cancer journey.
Let’s talk about it.
We have therapists on our team who have many years of experience working in oncology settings as well as lived experience of cancer. We know that health care systems provide some support for psycho-social oncology for patients in active treatment. The support provided by hospital professionals can be invaluable. But if you are in need of more time with a mental health professional, a more personalized approach, or a focus on the trauma and life-changes that you are struggling with, it may be helpful to speak to a therapist on our team.
