Something I've come to believe: the right information, at the right moment, in the right relationship, can change everything. Change happens when you feel seen and understood.
Long before training as a therapist, I spent a lifetime navigating real challenges at work, at home, and in my volunteer community. Anxiety, depression, ADHD, and the profound complexity of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) have touched me and the people I love deeply—teaching me things no classroom ever could. I am also deeply indebted to a wise mentor who shaped my youth and taught me that what matters most is our stance towards life—a stance courageously undefended against uncertainty and vulnerability.
For more than thirty years, I lived the pressure of leading global software teams. I understand workplace stress and the strain of difficult professional relationships intimately. I know what it’s like to carry responsibility for other people’s wellbeing while quietly managing your own. Leaving that executive world wasn’t an escape; it was a deliberate step into what matters most to me: the kinds of conversations that change lives.
My approach is neuroscience-informed and draws on evidence-based modalities like ACT, DBT, EFT, IFS, and CBT. But more than adhering to a specific modality, I follow the person in front of me. I am genuinely curious about how your particular mind works—and I believe that truly understanding that can be profoundly liberating.
As President of the Ottawa Network for Borderline Personality Disorder (ON-BPD), I lead the Family Connections program and host public lectures on the latest research and treatment. I also serve on the Family Advisory Council at The Royal Ottawa Hospital, as a Family Representative on the Institute for Mental Health Research Board, and as a member of the hospital's Research Ethics Board. This involvement keeps me at the leading edge of evidence-based care, which I bring directly into our sessions.
Whether you are navigating relationship strain, career stress, burnout, neurodiversity, or the weight of unspoken past experiences—you don’t have to arrive with answers. You can just show up — for yourself.
Q & A with Floyd
What do you like most about the work that you do?
"I love being present with people as they discover new insights about themselves. Something shifts — sometimes quietly, sometimes suddenly — and you can feel the room change. That moment never gets old."
What made you decide to choose your current profession?
"After more than thirty years leading and caring for coworkers and employees, my volunteer work with the Ottawa Network for Borderline Personality Disorder became such a passion that I decided to pivot towards full-time clinical practice."
What do you think are the biggest misconceptions about mental health?
"First, that struggling means something is fundamentally wrong with you. Often, it just means a part of your life — your history, your relationships, or your neurobiology — deserves dedicated attention and understanding. Second, that change isn’t possible; I know firsthand that the brain can rewire, and small shifts yield massive changes. And third, that you are alone. So many people carry these weights in silence. Feeling truly seen and heard shatters that isolation."
What do you want your clients to know about you and what it will be like working with you?
"I am a warm, grounded and deeply curious listener. Together we will chase your learning edge — the exact insight or connection that can shift your trajectory. The work can be challenging and it can be warm — often both in the same session."
What do you value most in a client?
"Their willingness to simply show up as they are. You don't need to have it all figured out — honesty, curiosity, and the courage to take a first step are more than enough."
What is your biggest achievement to date?
"Stepping away from a successful 30-year executive career because a deeper calling required my attention. The profound sense of gratitude I feel when witnessing a client's growth reassures me every day that it was the right move."
