Guide to Challenging Grind Culture
Life is demanding so much of us again…
For many people, the pandemic brought an opportunity to pause, reflect and re-prioritize. It also brought significant fear, anxiety, and loss. There was a shared sense that one we got through this, things on the other side would be different. We would appreciate the little things, prioritize our well being over work, and spend time doing the things that matter most. However, here we are - in some version of “new normal” - and we’ve noticed a theme. The demands are back, the expectations are back, ‘Grind Culture’ is back.
That’s why we decided to focus on ‘Grind Culture’ in October. Grind culture pressures us to put productivity above peace, efficiency above joy, and results over rest. And while we aim to help you put strategies in place to resist grind culture, we also recognize that rest is not available to all people all of the time. We need to ask hard questions about why the most marginalized people in the most marginalized jobs have to hustle as a way of life in order to meet their most basic needs. We will only be free from grind culture once all people are free from grind culture.
“Trust your body. Be kind to yourself. You are enough, just as you are right now. Your joy matters. Please tell everyone you know.”
- Emily & Amelia Nagoski
