Masters in Counselling Psychology
Registered Psychotherapist

I offer a therapeutic approach that is compassionate and affirming. I use a person-centered approach that allows my clients to reveal their authentic selves and be self-directed while I support them with the knowledge and expertise I have and continue to develop. I draw on skills from a variety of modalities when they seem helpful and appropriate, including Emotion Focused Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, and Feminist Theory among others.

Coming from a lower socio-economic background with divorced parents, while being privileged in other ways, I am aware of the social justice issues that impact health. I have lived experience with neurodiversity, grief, and have supported individuals with life-limiting illness. I have additional education in ADHD and Autism therapy.

Some strategies I use for my own mental well-being are to practice self-compassion and to try to motivate myself with my values rather than external pressures.

Q & A with Lindsay

What do you think are the biggest misconceptions about mental health?

“I think a misconception about mental health is that you have to wait until you are in crisis to ask for help or that you have to have a formal diagnosis in order to get a therapist. A therapist can be here for you during many times of your life, including feeling a bit low, life transitions, experiences of loss, etc.. Sometimes taking care of things when they are smaller means that you can prevent or curb a crisis.”

What made you decide to choose your role as a therapist?

“When I reflected on the world and all the negative going on, I asked myself - what can you do about it? Being a therapist is how I can serve my community and help it to heal, even just one by one or a little at a time.“

What’s the best piece of advice that you ever received?

"You do not have to keep going with a mistake just because you spent a long time making it.“

What is your favourite place to find inspiration?

"An empty theatre. The energy of past performances still permeates the space. In the stillness and quiet of an otherwise active and crowded space I can allow my thoughts to wander and my imagination to take over.“

What are the top 3 things you do to keep healthy?

The first thing I do is create solid boundaries around my time and how I spend it to make sure I have enough alone-time where I can be by myself and recharge my batteries. I try to move my body three times a week, usually through going to the gym or doing yoga, but it can also be dancing or going for a walk - whatever is right for me that day. Lastly, I ask for expert help when I need it, which sometimes can cost a little more and is not always possible, but I know I can't fix my toilet so I call a plumber and in the same way I have also asked for people's help to look at my diet, look at my physical care routine, etc.

Why should a potential client come to everwell?

"Something that is unique about everwell is that we fully embrace offering virtual therapy and the benefits and conveniences that this offers our clients. At everwell you benefit from diverse therapists in all stages of their career who bring their unique set of experiences and identities to therapy and to supervision.“

What do you value most in a client?

“What I value most in a client is radical honesty. I am ultimately here to help the client, I can do that best if they are the most honest they can be with me -even if they think that honesty might hurt my feelings or seem unhelpful.”

What would you like a client to say about working with you?

“I hope that clients would describe me as warm, nonjudgmental, and helpful.”

What's your favourite thing to do on weekends?

“Some things I love to do on the weekend are taking a yoga class, watching a new season of my favourite shows (yes, sometimes a whole season), baking something fun, hanging out with my nephews.“
