Robyn Tedesco

Registered Social Worker

I began my career in the Hamilton community and have worked in a variety of roles within social services for 13 years. The last 6 years were spent providing counselling to women and children who had experienced domestic violence and this is an area that is really close to my heart. This work in particular has formed who I am as a social worker and has ignited a passion in me for social justice, advocacy, and supporting people as they go through difficult and traumatic experiences.

My areas of specialization include: anxiety and depression; women’s issues; self-esteem; life transitions; stress and coping; abuse and trauma; intimate partner violence / domestic violence.

I would want any potential client to know that in working with me, you are the expert of your own life and experiences, and we will work together collaboratively throughout the therapy process. You can expect me to be supportive, thoughtful, encouraging and honest, and to prioritize our rapport from the get-go.

Q & A with Robyn

What made you decide to choose your role as a therapist?

“I always knew that I wanted to help people and I’ve always been someone who has tended towards deep, intense conversations with others. I was the one having heart-to-hearts in the kitchen at a party and finding deep connections with people shortly after I met them. Since this was my natural inclination, being a therapist seemed like a perfect fit.”

What do you like most about what you do?

“I love connecting with others and being there to witness the ‘aha’ moments. There is something powerful and courageous about putting hard things into words and sharing them with someone, and it’s magic to witness this in person.”

What do you think are the biggest misconceptions about mental health?

“I think one of the biggest misconceptions about mental health is that seeking help is a sign of weakness. Finding support is a personal journey and looks different for everyone, and it takes a lot of courage and strength to seek help and be vulnerable with others about your needs throughout the process.”

What do you value most in a client?

“I value clients who are honest and willing to be vulnerable. Engaging in therapy can be hard (and scary), but can also be so worth it. Approaching it with readiness and openness goes a long way towards finding healing, balance and change.”

What would you like a client to say about you?

“I try to be someone who is safe, approachable and trust-worthy, and not afraid to get into the messy stuff.”

What is your biggest achievement to date - personal or professional?

“Becoming a parent has been significant in so many ways. Parenting has taught me a lot about trusting my intuition and grounding myself through big emotions (both my own and my kids’) and this has carried over into my work life so much. Joining everwell has been a big achievement for me too. It can be so hard for us to make changes in our lives and this change was a big one for me!

Why should a potential client come to everwell?

" everwell works hard to be accessible and approachable for clients. There’s flexibility and variety in counselling approaches and fees and it is made up of a great team of inclusive and supportive therapists.”
