What to expect

I don't even know if I want to do this.

Why should I even consider therapy?

Everyone struggles with 'things' in their day to day life that leave us feeling frustrated, angry or just plain stressed out!  When a lot of little 'things'  pile up and turn into major issues, therapy can be a way to work through your challenges.   A counsellor's role is to help you feel less stuck in old patterns, offering different perspectives so you can discover new solutions. Many of us feel that we should be able to tackle these problems on our own, but deciding to consult a therapist is not a sign of weakness. If anything, it is a commitment to making a positive change in your life which is a sign of strength. Going to therapy is investing in yourself.  You are worth it.

How do I schedule my first appointment?

Counselling and Psychotherapy

If you are new to everwell, we will ask you to fill out our New Client Form.  A member of our team will contact you directly to confirm and schedule your initial discovery session.

If you are an existing client, you book your appointments with your specific team member.

How long does a 'session' last?

Counselling and Psychotherapy

For counselling and psychotherapy sessions, the duration will depend on your issues and goals.  Each counsellor or therapist will discuss your requirements during your initial discovery session and set the length of your subsequent sessions from there.

I've never done this before... what happens in my first session?

We discover the cause before we work on the problem

During your initial discovery session, you will be asked to talk about what brought you to therapy.  In the case of couple and family sessions, each person will be asked to share their perspectives. Your therapist will ask questions about the problem to develop a deeper understanding and may also ask questions about any attempted solutions, other issues, and individual histories. You will also be asked about your goals.  Subsequent sessions will focus on reaching your goals and addressing any obstacles or conflicts which may arise along the way.

How long will it take before I feel better?

Healing takes time

The duration of therapy and healing varies greatly from person to person.  The length of recovery depends on the issues you are dealing with and defining what recovery means to you.  Part of our role is to help you understand what is at the root of your challenges and then empower you to work towards tangible results based on your defined recovery goals.  The frequency of sessions ( how often we meet) is flexible based on your needs and available resources. You will be able to speak to your counsellor or therapist about this during your initial discovery session.
