Alicia Galley

Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) Therapist Intern

Hi, I’m Alicia. I’m currently completing my Master’s in Counselling Psychology and am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying). My background is in behaviour therapy, where I developed strong skills in building relationships, understanding patterns, and supporting emotional regulation. That experience has shaped how I show up in therapy, focused on creating a space that feels safe, supportive, and genuinely non-judgmental.

I believe therapy should feel like a place where you can show up exactly as you are. My approach is collaborative and client-centred, and I aim to meet you where you’re at without pressure or expectations. Together, we can explore what feels most important to you and work toward change in a way that feels realistic and meaningful. I’m especially interested in working with adults navigating anxiety, stress, life transitions, relationship challenges, and questions around intimacy or sexual health. I also aim to create an inclusive and affirming space for neurodivergent individuals and members of the LGBTQ2S+ community, as well as those navigating substance use or recovery.

I know starting therapy can feel like a big step, and it’s not always easy. My goal is to help you feel comfortable, supported, and truly heard so we can move forward in a way that feels right for you.

Q & A with Alicia

What made you decide to choose your role as a therapist?

“I have always been someone who naturally listens and tries to understand what others are going through. Over time, I realized how meaningful it can be to have a space where you can truly feel heard and not judged. My experience working a behaviour therapy really reinforce that for me, it showed me how important connection, patients, and understanding are in helping others navigate challenges. I decided to pursue psychotherapy because I wanted to be able to support people in a deeper, more meaningful way. I value creating a space where people can feel safe to open up, make sense of what they’re experiencing, and move toward change at their own pace.”

What do you think are the biggest misconceptions about mental health?

“One of the biggest misconceptions is that struggling with mental health means something is “wrong” with you. In reality, many of our thoughts, emotions, and reactions make sense when you consider what we’ve been through. Another misconception is that you have to wait until things feel really bad to reach out for support. Therapy doesn’t have to be a last resort, it can also be a space for self-understanding, growth, and learning how to navigate life in a way that feels more manageable and aligned with who you are.”

What do you like most about what you do?

“What I like most is getting to connect with people in a real and meaningful way. Everyone has their own story, and I value being able to sit with someone, understand their experience, and support them through it. I also really appreciate seeing even small shifts overtime, whether it’s gaining insight, feeling a bit more confident, or just having a space where someone feels heard.”

What would you like a client to say about working with you?

“I would hope a client would say that they felt comfortable being themselves in our sessions and that they felt truly heard and understood. I would want them to feel like our space was supportive, non-judgmental, and somewhere they could talk openly, even about the harder things. I also hope they would feel like they were able to gain insight, build confidence, and leave sessions feeling even a little more grounded or clear than they came in.”

What do you want your clients to know about what it will be like working with you?

I want my clients to know that they don’t have to have everything figured out before coming to therapy. You can show up exactly as you are, whether that’s feeling overwhelmed, unsure, or just needing someone to talk to. Working with me is collaborative and relaxed. I’m not here to judge or tell you what to do, but to work alongside you and understanding your experiences and finding what feels helpful for you. I tried to create a space that feels natural and supportive, where we can move at a pace that feels comfortable and realistic.”
