Beni Wajnberg

Therapist Intern

I come to this work with a quiet conviction that something meaningful can happen when a person feels genuinely met. Therapy, to me, isn’t about fixing or diagnosing from a distance, it’s about sitting together and making room for what’s real. I try to offer a presence that is steady and unhurried, where you don’t have to perform or have things neatly figured out. Whether you’re carrying anxiety, grief, a sense of being stuck, or questions that don’t have easy answers, our time together is a sanctuary - a safe place where those things can be spoken and, over time, understood a little differently.

The way I work is shaped by a mix of approaches—humanistic, Internal Family Systems, psychodynamic, ACT, and CBT—but more importantly, by the person in front of me. Some days our work may be about understanding patterns that have been with you for a long time; other days it might be about learning how to relate differently to difficult thoughts or emotions. I’m interested in both insight and change, in helping you make sense of your story while also finding practical ways to move through the parts of life that feel heavy or overwhelming. There’s room here for seriousness, but also for moments of lightness and even humour when they find their way in.

Alongside my clinical work, I am also an ordained religious leader, and for many years I’ve sat with people in moments of loss, transition, and searching. That experience continues to shape how I listen—without rushing to answers, and with respect for how complex and layered a life can be. Outside the therapy room, I’m a partner, a parent, someone who plays the cello with more enthusiasm than skill, and someone who believes in the value of slowing down—often over a cup of tea—to really be with another person. If this way of working resonates with you, I’d be glad to connect.

Q & A with Beni

What made you decide to choose your role as a therapist?

“In one word? YOU! I’ve always been drawn to the spaces where people ask the big, messy questions, especially when life doesn’t go according to plan. Somewhere along the way, sitting with others in those moments stopped feeling like something I did, and started feeling like where I belong.”

What do you think are the biggest misconceptions about mental health?

“That it’s only something you “deal with” when things fall apart. Most of the time, mental health lives in the ordinary, in how we speak to ourselves, how we carry stress, how we relate to others. Also, the idea that struggle means something is wrong with you. Often it means something in your life deserves attention. And maybe the biggest one: that you have to figure it out alone. You really don’t. You are not alone!”

What do you want your clients to know about what it will be like working with you?

“That you don’t have to have it all figured out. That I’ll meet you ALWAYS as a person first, not a problem to solve. The good and the bad, it is all welcome into our space. And that the work can be deep without being heavy all the time! There’s room here for seriousness, but also for breath, for moments of ease, even, occasionally, for a bit of laughter.”

What would you like a client to say about working with you?

“That they felt met, not analyzed or judged. That they could be honest without editing themselves. That something in them softened, or made a little more sense. And that, somehow, they didn’t feel so alone in it anymore.”

What is your biggest achievement to date?

“Moving from a "couch potato" to someone who actually enjoys running outside!”
