YOGA + TALK: Self-care in Action
By Carly Fleming, M.Ed. RP
Registered Psychotherapist
On Wednesday Nov. 13th, 2019 we will be starting a very special group offering at everwell. We are combining yoga with traditional group psychotherapy to help participants explore self-care and their relationship to themselves. The group is open to anyone who would benefit from a deep dive into self-care and the many barriers to truly knowing and caring for ourselves.
As therapists, we spend a lot of time with our clients exploring concepts and actions associated with self-care. These conversations tend to be rich and deep - addressing cultural/social expectations along with nuanced beliefs about ourselves and the world. Very often yoga comes up in these conversations. Yoga can allow us a new experience of being in and with our bodies and can be an excellent starting off point for shifting our relationship to self. Social context also tends to come up in these conversations - how connection with others can deepen our sense of self while disconnection can lead to isolation and self-criticism.
And so arrived the idea of combining yoga with group psychotherapy. Each session will provide an opportunity to practice yoga followed by intentional discussions - both as vehicles for self-reflection and greater self-awareness. Discussion topics will include self-care, relationships with self and others, limiting self-beliefs, boundary-setting, and other issues that impact the way we show up for ourselves in the world.
If you would like to participate in this group or ask more questions, you can find more information here.
We are really excited about this group and it’s potential to transform the way people practice self-care in their lives.
We hope you’ll join us.
